Meet Brett Schulthies......

PS: What inspired you to do hair?
BS: The reason why I chose to go into the beauty industry is because I have always had a passion and love for fashion, trends, hair and make-up. I also love meeting and talking to new and different people every day. I felt that a career in cosmetology would combine these two interests of mine perfectly.

PS: Where did you attend cosmetology school?
BS: I attended cosmetology school at Paul Mitchell the School in Provo, Utah.

PS: Where was the first place you started working after graduating?
BS: I first started working at Metropolitan Hair Salon in Provo.

PS: How long have you been with Platinum Studio now?
BS: I have been with Platinum Studio for three years.

PS: How long have you been doing hair?
BS: I have been doing hair for five and a half years.

PS: What color line do you use on clients?
BS: I use Schwarzkopf professional hair color.

What styling products to you use on clients?
BS: I use a combination of Schwarzkopf, Paul Mitchell and Big Sexy hair professional products.

PS: What is your favorite part of being a hairstylist?
BS: My favorite part of being a stylist is helping my clients feel the very best they can about themselves by helping them to achieve the look they are desiring for their hair. When a client walks out the door happy and satisfied with what we have done with their hair I couldn't be happier!

PS: What hair service do you enjoy doing the most?
BS: I actually love doing everything from color and cut to up-dos and perms. I love variety so the more the better!

PS: What would you say you specialize in?
BS: I absolutely love doing short hair. I think it is so fun and I feel like I can be super creative with it.

PS: Do you try to continue your education with this industry and what do you enjoy the most about what you learn when you are there?
BS: Education to me is very important. I have always had a passion for learning new things and think that it is so crucial to keep up on your craft and skill especially in this industry because trends and looks are always changing. I try to go to educational classes at least once a quarter and am always reading up on current material to make sure I am educated so that I can be the best stylist to my clients and pass what I learn onto them.

PS: What is one thing that you feel you could improve at?
BS: I think that there is always room for improvement with everything. Because the moment you think you are the master is when you start getting complacent. I always want to feel like I am improving and honing my skills. I am a big believer in striving to be better than you were the day before.

PS: If you could have only one styling product and styling tool to use on yourself what would they be?
BS: It would be Marrakesh oil to hydrate and tame my curly locks and a flat iron to help control my hair!

PS: What is your goal in this industry for the next five years?
BS: My goal in the next five years is to continue to help my clients and future clients look and feel the very best that they can! I also would love to be doing more photo-shoots/editorial work. I love this industry and I always want to be apart of it!

PS: Is there a famous hairstylist that inspires you?
BS: The stylists that truly inspire me are the girls that I work with everyday! They are so talented and amazing and I am constantly inspired by their work.

PS: What is one myth about hair that drives you crazy?
BS: It's not so much a myth as it is the commercials on TV that promote box hair color and that you can give yourself amazing high-lights with it! Sorry to everyone out there that thinks you can get beautiful high-lights from a box, it's just not gonna happen!!

Meet Lisa Richards.....

PS: What inspired you to be a Esthetician?
LR: I was in college wishing there was a "beauty major", seriously! I knew i wasn't interested in hair, but i wanted to be a licensed makeup artist, but when in school, I became hooked on skin.

PS: Where did you attend Esthetician school?
LR: Mandalyn Academy. I was in the first official class, starting in 2001.

PS: Where was the first place you started working after graduating Mandalyn Academy?
LR: I went directly from school to Von Curtis Salon, which was at Riverwoods, where I worked for 6 1/2 years.

PS: How long have you been with Platinum Studio now?
LR: About a year and a half now.

PS: How long have you been a Esthetician?
LR: This is my eighth year.

PS: What skin care line do you use on clients?
LR: Jan Marini Skin Research. I started using it 4 years ago, and it's been my undisputed favorite since, very effective, and compatible with most every skin type.

PS: What services do you offer to clients?
LR: I offer waxing services as well as lash and brow tinting, in addition to facials, and various facial resurfacing treatments.

PS: What is your favorite part of being a Esthetician?
LR: Improving someones appearance, simply by bringing out what's already there. Giving a client their best brow, or their best skin.

PS: What service do you enjoy doing the most?
LR: Microdermabrasion. Because we can really get progress you can see and feel!

PS: What would you say you specialize in?
LR: Probably microdermabrasion. Specializing by giving the appropriate amount of skin resurfacing specific to the client.

PS: Do you try to continue your education with this industry and what do you enjoy the most about what you learn when you are there?
LR: Absolutely! You've got to be up on the latest treatment and ingredients. I like learning what really works, and I get so pumped about coming back to share and implement what I learn with my clients.

PS: What is one thing that you feel you could improve at?
LR: My communication with clients. I often spew a lot of information at my clients, that I'm not exactly sure if they are on my same planet. I just get excited, and want to educate my clients, because there is so much conflicting and confusing information out there.

PS: If you could have only one skin care product to use on yourself what would it be?
LR: Seriously? Oh, that would kill me, considering I take an entire 7-step (travel size of course)camping! But I would choose the glycolic cleanser, and pray it would be enough.

PS: What is your goal in this industry for the next five years?
LR: To become better and better with time. Refine my skills, and really hone in on the most effective products and treatment methods for my clients to have phenomenal results. That's what I'm always striving for.

PS: Why is it beneficial for the skin to get facials, Microdermabrasion or Glycolic peels?
LR: The skin needs help shedding, especially as we age. So, by resurfacing, you assist the skin to reveal and maintain healthy tissue. Any professional treatment is a wise way to continue to improve the skin. Even the best skin needs maintenance, so we use products and treatments that accelerate that quest for better skin.

PS: What skin care service or waxing service is your favorite to receive yourself?
LR: Well, all the waxing services are really a need for me. But, my favorite is a facial, of course. Total relaxation, while my skin gets some love. I walk out of the salon looking and feeling like butter!

PS: What is one myth about waxing or skin that drives you crazy?
LR: Ok, I've got to say one for each. For waxing, it's whatever reason that keeps people from waxing the upper lip. Most, mistakenly believe it will grow in thicker by waxing it. But let me tell you, you're not doing yourself any favors by leaving it! For skin: it's got to be TANNING. I am a Nazi on people who think baking their skin makes them look better. WRONG! It doesn't matter how dark it is, it doesn't compensate for crappy skin! No worries, I'll wean anyone off, and come see me, and I'll hook you up with a nice sunless tanner.

Lisa accepts new clients. The days that Lisa is in the treatment room are Tuesday, Thursday nights and one Saturday out of the month. To make an appointment with Lisa you can contact her at 801-836-6299.
